The Telegraph has been named news website of the year at the prestigious Press Gazette Awards.

On Wednesday, this publication took the prize for best News and Current Affairs Website of the Year.

It comes after The Telegraph reached one million paid subscribers last month.

The judges at the awards said: “This is a website and app which is impressively laid out by user needs.

“It provides a fine digital platform for agenda-setting journalism which knows its audience and has helped the publisher reach more than one million subscribers.”

Press Gazette’s Future of Media Awards 2023 celebrate the best digital journalism and publishing from the past year.

The Telegraph was the first major newspaper in Europe to launch a website, in 1994.

After twenty-five years, the site was improved with a major relaunch and new homepage.

Since then, this publication has been showered with awards for its leading journalism and innovative online delivery.

Earlier this year, The Telegraph also won news website of the year at the Press Awards. The accolade was one of several collected by The Telegraph at the ceremony in March.

In 2020, Telegraph.co.uk also won Website of the Year at the Press Awards, which was one of 11 accolades it received.

Among them were Investigation of the Year, Scoop of the Year and Front Page of the Year for exposing allegations of sexual and racial harassment against Sir Philip Green in a series that lifted the lid on the British #MeToo scandal.
